The Final Motor is Found!

After months of disciplined patience, thorough searching and careful considerations Alan Lee has found the heart of the Kamae project. A V12 Ferrari motor from a late model 575 Maranello that had only 4000 miles on it! But the idea is to go bigger than that by including a supercharger in the design. From the get go, Alan has reached out to his first choice in superchargers, Procharger, for their support in the supercar project. That was the solution required to get the barrier-breaking horsepower at high RPM that Alan envisions.
The Chopper Challenge
Fortunately, since the Chopper Challenge TV Show on CMT back in 2008, Alan has a formed a relationship with Sergio Shifman and Walter Sipp at Procharger. He has learned first-hand that Procharger provides a dependable product that performs amazingly, at that includes the people too. When building the featured Monster Energy Drink motorcycle dedicated to his episode of the Chopper Challenge, expectations were set painfully high to build an entire radical machine within an un-heard-of 17 day timeline To build it required he only be working with truly steady components, but be surround by people of the same quality too. The centrifugal supercharger that Procharger provided for this sophisticated chopper build is the only bolt-on design for motorcycles, and the finess Alan witnessed in their engineering was highly impressive. Along with that, and because they came through heroically in this time of televised stress in front of record audiences, Procharger’s quality, timeliness, wisdom and overall support has won Alan over for life.
Ford Motor Company and SEMA
Also in 2008 Alan Lee was contacted by an automotive magazine to participate in a high-profile promotional project for the new Ford Flex aimed at the SEMA show in Las Vegas. Alan proposed to reach out to Procharger to hop up the car with a supercharger. Procharger went above and beyond expectations and installed a completely custom unit with intercooler…and all within 10 days! Working with such synergy, selflessness, skill and know-how is the only way Alan will allow sponsors in his highly-personal project. Procharger was the first to be invited to the family based on such traits. Anything less would compromise the project he feels. Lesser outfits that are unable to provide performance in their product AND people are not a good match so they are turned away. The sponsors Alan Lee works with are world class.

From 8 to 12 Cylinders and from One to Two Superchargers
Now in the Kamae project, Alan has now pushed aside the extraordinary V8 Modena that he was using for mock-up and testing, and is drawing his focus V12 juggernaut that’s about to get upgraded massively. This will be the power plant that will be the heart of this historic supercar. This sounds remarkable already, but the thought of adding two, yes two, Procharger C2 superchargers, each set to handle 800+ HP to the system will turn heads only to blow their minds!

Two is Beautiful
Dual C2’s is a performance and engineering solution, ultimately, but the aesthetics of it can’t be ignored. The challenge is the double plenum on the intake manifold usually seen in most high-end motors. The V12 has one intake per 6 cylinders with a separated throttle body and sensor. It is better in this case to use two smaller superchargers than one large one. In the mid-engine Kamae the blowers will need to be located in the back of the motor on each side of the transmission. Alan will have to design a shaft/linkage system to bring the rotational effect from the front to the rear. The pulley and crankshaft outlet will be facing the firewall behind the seat.
The weight repartition factor is also extremely important with a double-blower approach. Two intercoolers must be packaged on each side of the motor in a way that fresh, cool air via the two intakes can enter. These two intakes will be cut on each of the rear fenders.

Procharger is the Only Option for Such an Undertaking
The Calypso Kamae is ultimately an experimental project done by one man who depends on the quality and talent of sponsors. Components need to work. Manufactures need to step up and have their expertise challenged. These few words only touch upon the technical complexity that the sponsor/designer relationship must engage.
rocharger seems naturally up to the challenge. Though Alan’s project is truly one-of-a-kind, Prochargers service and support is expressed to their customers every day. Getting involved in such a project that demands back and forth communication and Procharger does this well. Alan Lee is grateful and honored to have Procharger on the team when there are so many wonderful opportunities for Procharger to support in the street car, V-Twin motorcycle, boat, race car, off-road and dragster industries that they lead in. They have winning records in all the realms they provide sponsorship in, and this continues to provide Alan with confidence as he pours all his resources, time, heart and soul into this project. Without such trust, Alan is free to walk away. And in turn, without such trust that Alan will introduce a great, new machine to the world of motoring Procharger can walk away. With a predicted 1000 horsepower at 9000 RPM in a superlight, hand-built masterpiece – this relationship is going nowhere but up.
Alan Lee supports his sponsors and his sponsors support him back Without such relationships, great things like the Kamae would never unfold.
